Matthews, Carter & Boyce's Kathleen M. Flaherty, CPA and Michael Lyon, a certified fraud examiner, will discuss current fraud schemes and internal controls that could have alleviated or prevented the fraud from occurring.
About Kathleen M. Flaherty, CPA
Kathleen "Kathy" Flaherty is a Principal of Matthews, Carter & Boyce. She joined the firm in 2009 after previously working with E. Cohen and Company, CPAs, Benz Flaherty & Guardia, P.C. and Friedman & Fuller, P.C.
Kathy has extensive experience in providing auditing, accounting and consulting services to a broad range of clients for over thirty years. Her expertise relates to the following industries: not-for-profit entities, low income housing entities including HUD projects and state agencies, residential real estate, commercial real estate and construction, governmental entities, non-supervised mortgage lenders, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers.
Kathy has significant audit experience pertaining to compliance and internal control analysis, design and integration of accounting systems for small and medium-sized businesses and governmental audits including OMB Circular A-133 audits.
Her litigation support services include testimony in HUD and other legal proceedings, supporting services including analysis of numerous years of financial information, review of claims and charges and preparation of analyses to refute claims and charges.
About Michael O. Lyon, CPA, CFE, CFF
Michael O. Lyon is a senior audit manager at MCB. He joined the firm in 2007. Michael has over twenty-five years in public accounting with extensive experience auditing and/or consulting with profit and nonprofit entities. Nonprofit concentrations include: charitable and membership organizations, including private clubs; foundations, and; religious organizations.
Michael has conducted numerous fraud investigations, primarily involving embezzlements. Michael has testified regarding such matters in open court and in depositions. He has also given many presentations regarding fraud for businesses and as well as for his fellow accountants.Location:Microsoft Office Store
