In this exciting end to the season, the orchestra will feature the Symphony in E Minor, Op.32 (“Gaelic”), by American composer Amy Marcy Cheney Beach. Amy Beach was considered the first women composer of large-scale art music. This concert will also feather Ottorino Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, conducted by Guest Conductor Igor Sarmiento. Mr. Sarmiento has previously performed as a cellist with the Symphony and served as a guest conductor at the April concert. The final piece will be Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra in D Minor, Op. 42, by Alexandre Guilmant, featuring organist David Lang. Mr. Lang is in his seventh season as artistic director for the Reston Chorale and serves as director of music at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Mclean and as keyboard artist for Washington Hebrew Congregation. In addition, he is the sales director for Rodgers digital organs, Roland electronic instruments, and Ruffatti pipe organs for R. A. Daffer Church Organs, Inc., of Jessup, Maryland.
