TheatreMcLean’s Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza for families of all ages to enjoy! Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once On This Island, Ragtime) have lovingly brought to life all of our Dr. Seuss favorites. These colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool, to the Circus McGurkus, to the invisible world of the Whos. Our narrator, the Cat in the Hat, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the miniscule world of the Whos – including Jojo, a little Who child with a big imagination, sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he also must guard an abandoned egg left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, but the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, through the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community, Horton overcomes these challenges and emerges triumphant. This fast-paced, 105-minute show (including intermission) is filled with singing, dancing, silly characters, and colorful costumes. Fun for children and adults of all ages, TheatreMcLean’s Seussical is the perfect way to introduce young audiences to the joys of live theatre, while older theatre-goers can re-acquaint themselves with the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. TheatreMcLean is pleased to provide an exclusive opportunity for Girl Scouts to learn more about musical theatre. After the April 30 matinee, join us for a special “talkback” with cast and crew members, and earn a TheatreMcLean Fun Patch. When purchasing tickets, select the “Girl Scout” rate that includes the show, patch, and post-show talkback. “Seussical” Theatre for Young Audiences Version is presented through special arrangement with MTI.
