McLean Green Day: Organic Food, Fitness and Fun
The Brooksfield School is organizing a Green McLean Day in conjunction with the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce’s Green Week festivities that will be running from October 23 through the 30th. Brooksfield’s Green McLean Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 23 from 9:00 am to noon at 1830 Kirby Road on the grounds of St. Dunstan’s Church. We anticipate between 200 to 400 participants at the event.
Our goal is to educate our community about sustainability and how individual actions can impact our environment while reducing our carbon footprint. Supervisor John Foust will kick off the event which will showcase local green vendors, builders, architects, nutritionists, local farmers and businesses that provide green or organic products locally. The day will feature festive and educational activities for families. Participants can watch demonstrations by green vendors who will demonstrate how to save on energy bills at home and work; compost in your own backyard; start an organic garden; use non-toxic products to clean and sanitize, and more. Other activities will include rock wall climbing, pony rides, face painting, pumpkin painting and a costume exchange and more.
Supervisor John W. Foust commented, “I am proud of the fact that Fairfax County is a leader among local governments in pursuing initiatives that address the long term quality of the environment. It is great to be able to partner with groups like The Brookfield School and the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce on this important environmental program. It is an exciting opportunity for McLean area residents to learn how we can all take action in our own lives to protect and improve our environment.”
Brooksfield is a Montessori School, founded in 1987, spanning preschool through third grade with an emphasis on the arts, outdoor learning and environmental stewardship. The school has 84 students from Northern Virginia and attracts many international families. The school is expanding to include a fourth grade class next year.
